Red Bank Harbor | Multi-Use Recreation Facility

Proposed | The Marine Park Green Acres Development

Red Bank Harbor is a proposal to convert an underutilized public site into a true public asset.  Superstorm Sandy has destroyed clay tennis courts that had existed for use by a very narrow constituency of the public.  This proposed public/private partnership envisions a place for recreational uses by the full spectrum of generations that call Red Bank the center of their daily lives.  The proposal includes year-round uses of ice-skating (synthetic ice), mini-golf, and a full array of water activities (kayaks, paddle boards, pedal boats at least).  The design incorporates sustainable and green features for not only the buildings but for the site, too, and includes an electric transit loop for better access to the park.

We are excited to be part of Jetsun Enterprises' proposal to make an even more vibrant waterfront for Red Bank's entire community!

Lecture by Ed O'Neill | Design of Bell Labs

Bell Labs | Holmdel NJ

Follow-up to one of our former posts on the Bell Labs building in Holmdel, designed by Eero Saarinen!... Some of us have been watching for the progress on the "redevelopment" of the former tech complex, though the news has not been very detailed thus far.     However, on July 31, SOME Architects' Ed O'Neill gave an informative talk on the design of the iconic structure.  The images shown below are part of his analysis.  Here is a description of the presentation, offered to the public through Brookdale Community College:

[Architecture Tour: Eero Saarinen’s Bell Labs – Then And Now

Eero Saarinen was a gifted modern architect whose work exhibits an imaginative use of new building technologies. Holmdel’s Bell Labs building is a stunning example of this theory – the architecture respects the site while accommodating a unique idea for a corporate facility that promoted team research in an almost collegial atmosphere. The uniqueness of the facility is both glory and curse. The design is so tailored that adapting the site for new uses is a special, and some will say, an exciting challenge. Architecture Professor Edward O’Neill will discussed Saarinen’s work followed by a tour of the building in its current renovations-in-progress state.

With Brookdale Community College, this program is offered through the support of Somerset Development, transitioning a Saarinen architectural masterpiece into an exciting new destination for today’s community.]
